Amnesty Programme: Ex-Militants Seek Kuku's Probe

Former Niger Delta militants of Urhobo extraction have called on the Federal Government to investigate alleged misappropriation of some amnesty slots and inclusion of ghost-names into the Amnesty Programme by the immediate past Special Adviser and chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Mr. Kingsley Kuku.

They said the call to probe Kuku became necessary following alleged misappropriation of amnesty slots for former militant youths of Urhobo extraction in the phase three of the programme.

The ex-agitators however commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his swift intervention in the payment of the monthly stipends following growing tension of possible scraping of the programme.

Addressing newsmen on Tuesday, a leader of the Gbarigolor-Ewu Urhobo ex-agitators, Lucky Johnson alleged that Kuku's action deprived Urhobo ex-militants for their exact slots in the programme.

While hailing the President on the appointment General Paul Boroh as the head of the amnesty programme, he observed that recent activities by President Buhari have proved he is a true patriot and a champion of equity and fair play.

According to him, Boroh's appointment has led to the inauguration of a six man committee to find ways to resolve the impasse in the third phase of the amnesty programme which has generated so much controversy especially as it concerns the Urhobo ex-agitators.

The former militants however pledged their unalloyed support to the President and resolved to work with the Buhari-led government in ensuring a peaceful Niger Delta in particular and Nigeria in general.
