Dickson Defends N3bn Ogbia-Nembe Road Project

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, has said that his administration’s decision to provide N3 billion to the contractor handling the Ogbia-Nembe Road was borne out of his personal love for the Nembe people and the desire to spread development to all parts of the state.

Dickson, while commissioning the Nembe City Stadium at Ogbolomabiri, vowed not to be deterred by the activities of detractors from implementing the well intentioned plans of the current administration’s restoration agenda.

He said that the state government, under his watch decided to intervene in the project, which had suffered setbacks for decades, to fulfil its electioneering promises to the people of Nembe.

The governor noted that, the project, which is being funded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, would not have reached its present level of completion, without the intervention of the state government and assured the people of Nembe Kingdom of more dividends of democracy.

He said: “You know people will always talk whatever they like, but don’t mind them. If you give N3 billion cash to enable the contractor finish a road that has been on the drawing board or that has been off and on for over 15 years and people are telling stories, would you join issues with them? Allow them to continue their talk, because you can’t stop them from talking.

“We are not talkers. We are doers and I can assure you that, despite their talking, nobody can stop us from doing the work of the people.

“But do me this favour, don’t join them in perpetrating criminality. While we have brought peace and we are providing facilities that will encourage our youths to exercise their energies in positive direction, we also know what used to be the situation before now, when some people were creating crisis in their communities.” (Vanguard)
