Over 3,000 Deportees Arrive From Cameroon

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Friday that more than 3,000 Nigerian refugees, mostly from Borno State, arrived the border from Cameroon and are currently undergoing registration formalities before being moved to Mubi for onward journey back home.

Most of the refugees had fled their homes to seek refuge in Cameroon because of the Boko Haram insurgency.

A statement by NEMA information officer in the Northeast, AbdulKadir Ibrahin , said the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Sani Sidi , accompanied by Borno state Deputy Governor Alhaji Zannah Mustapha, were in Mubi to oversee the registration formalities.

The statement explained that the deportees who are currently being camped at the Nigeria -Cameroon border would be joining some 2,000 displaced people earlier moved to safer locations in Mubi while 600 others were earlier in the week transported back home in Borno. (The Nigeria voice)
