African Goals Hit League Leaders Man City: Last Weekend

A pair of African goals gave third-place West Ham United a shock 2-1 weekend triumph at English Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Nigerian Victor Moses put the Hammers ahead and Senegalese Diafra Sakho snatched what proved the winner before half-time.

Nigerian Odion Ighalo bagged a brace as Watford won 2-1 at Newcastle United and Algerian Riyad Mahrez scored to spark a Leicester City comeback that salvaged a 2-2 away draw against Stoke City.

Nigeria striker Ighalo took his tally to four goals with a brace as Watford won 2-1 at Newcastle to claim their first away win. The 26-year-old forward, who has just signed a new five-year contract, opened the scoring with a low shot in the 10th minute.

He scored what proved to be the decisive goal 18 minutes later by running onto a pass from strike partner Troy Deeney, rounding goalkeeper Tim Krul and rolling the ball home.

RIYAD MAHREZ (Leicester City)

Mahrez provided the inspiration for another Leicester comeback as Claudio Ranieri's side came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Stoke City. The architect of Leicester's 3-2 comeback win over Aston Villa the previous weekend, the Algeria winger sounded the visitors' revolt at the Britannia Stadium with a 51st-minute penalty, which gave him his fifth goal of the season.

VICTOR MOSES (West Ham United)

On-loan Chelsea winger Moses set West Ham on their way to a superb 2-1 victory at league leaders Manchester City with his first goal in the east London club's colours. The Nigeria winger broke the deadlock in the sixth minute at the Etihad Stadium, arrowing a powerful low shot inside England goalkeeper Joe Hart's left-hand post from 20 yards.

DIAFRA SAKHO (West Ham United)

Sakho scored the winning goal against City, scrambling the ball past Hart from close range in the 31st minute after Winston Reid's header from a corner was blocked on the line by Fernandinho. It was the Senegal striker's fourth goal of the season, his second in the Premier League.

SADIO MANE (Southampton)

Mane had a hand in two goals but finished on the losing side as his team went down 3-2 at home to Manchester United. It was from Mane's shot, saved by David de Gea, that Graziano Pelle put the hosts ahead in the 13th minute and the Senegalese forward also provided the cross from which Pelle scored the game's final goal with an 86th-minute header.

Granada were robbed of a fine goal and possibly even a famous point away to Real Madrid when Nigerian under-20 international Success's low cross for Moroccan forward El-Arabi to finish was wrongly ruled offside in a 1-0 defeat at the Bernabeu.

Democratic Republic of Congo forward Bakambu's great start to life in La Liga suffered a setback as he was forced off with an ankle injury just 15 minutes into Villarreal's 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao and could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Fiorentina have been quietly playing under the radar as Inter Milan and several other teams set the early pace but Babacar's second goal in as many games pushed La Viola up to third.

The big Senegalese striker used his physique well to hold off several markers on the edge of the six-yard box, where he had two stabs at the ball before firing past Carpi goalkeeper Francesco Benussi. It was Babacar's second match-winner in as many weeks after his strike secured the points at home to Genoa last week.

After a solid performance in the 1-1 draw against Barcelona, the Egyptian was on top form again for a Roma side whose Champions League exertions in midweek seemed to exact a costly toll when the Giallorossi had to settle for a 2-2 home draw against Sassuolo. After Matteo Politano had restored Sassuolo's lead, Salah hit a second leveller to grab his maiden league goal for the club. Salah spurned a great chance to snatch the win in the final two minutes when Andrea Consigli dived to stop a curling drive from landing in the top corner of the net.

Mpoku won't forget his first meeting with Inter Milan midfield enforcer Felipe Melo quickly, the Democratic Republic of Congo international coming off worst in an aerial challenge that left him with a fractured cheekbone as Chievo's great start to the season was ended by a 1-0 home defeat to the Nerazzurri. The incident, which occurred minutes before the final whistle, angered Chievo coach Rolando Maran so much he was sent to the stands for protesting. Mpoku underwent scans after the game and now faces a spell on the sidelines.

KADER MANGANE (Gazelec Ajaccio)

The veteran Senegalese defender netted Gazelec Ajaccio's first goal in Ligue 1 in the Corsicans' 2-1 defeat against Guingamp. Mangane swept home a David Ducourtioux cross on 36 minutes to earn a slice of the club's history.

The Gabon midfielder scored his first Ligue 1 goal as Lorient won 3-2 at Monaco. Ndong, who joined the Brittany side in January, hammered a stunning 30-yard drive beyond Danijel Subasic for the opening goal on 12 minutes.

The Gabon winger converted a late penalty in Dortmund's 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen to keep them top of the Bundesliga with five wins from five league games and 11 straight wins in all competitions.

Aubameyang converted a spot-kick on 74 minutes to claim his 10th goal of the season in all competitions and with six goals from five league games as the Bundesliga's joint top-scorer alongside Bayern Munich's Thomas Mueller.

JOEL MATIP (Schalke 04)

The Cameroon centre-back has played in every minute of all Schalke's five league matches this season as the Royal Blues enjoyed a 1-0 win at Stuttgart thanks to Leroy Sane's winning goal to go fourth.

Matip has been a rock at the back for Schalke this season, also featuring over 90 minutes of Schalke's German Cup first-round win at Duisburg and scored in their 3-0 opening Europa League game at APOEL Nicosia.
