Kogbara, Abducted Vanguard Newspaper Columnist Regains Freedom

Ms. Donu Kogbara, the Vanguard newspaper columnist that was kidnapped by armed men outside her Port Harcourt, Rivers State home on August 30 has been released by her abductors.

Donu was released on Friday night and has returned to her residence, the police spokesman in Rivers State, Ahmad Muhammad (DSP) said in a text message to journalists.

It wasn't clear whether a ransom was paid for her release. Kidnapping for cash is a common occurrence in southern Nigeria.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Musa Kimo, went to see the journalist on Saturday morning.
