2 Robbers Arrested For Raping Pregnant Woman

The suspects in police custody
Two suspected armed robbers, who allegedly attacked 13 households within the Teshie-Nungua area and raped two victims including a pregnant woman and an expatriate in the course of their operations, have been arrested by the police.

The suspects are Ababire Macdey aka Obuabi, a student   and Sowa Simon, a 22-year-old mason.

Two of their accomplices who were arrested earlier are still standing trial in the law courts, while two others—Ernest Atani, aka Dzidzo, and Botey Sanza—are still on the run.

Items found on them included a locally made pistol, a foreign pistol, charms, a hammer, a knife, and a pair of pliers.

They are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.

Narrating their arrest to the media, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Accra Regional Police Commander, said the suspects have been on police wanted list for the past three years.

He said for the past three years, there have been robbery attacks on residents of Teshie Greda Estates, Fertilizer, Manner Mission, Teshie Nungua Estate, and Nungua Odukoma among others.

Police investigations, according to DCOP Yohuno, revealed that the two suspects were among a gang of six that operated within the area.

He said two of their accomplices were earlier arrested and are standing trial in the law courts but four others, including Macdey and Sowa, went into hiding.

Macdey and Sowa were finally arrested last month after robbing three other victims in June this year.

The victims, including a police officer, identified the two suspects during an identification parade after their arrest a week ago.

The two then confessed to the crimes upon interrogation and led police to the 13 houses they robbed earlier.

They also confessed that they attacked the police officer and robbed her of various items and an amount of GH¢3,800.

Modus Operandi
Touching on the modus operandi of the suspects, DCOP Yohuno said using a hammer and other sophisticated implements, the suspects forced the doors and burglar proofs of their victims' houses open, after which they attacked occupants of the houses.

Three of the victims who spoke to the media said the suspects attacked them in June this year around 1am.

They said the suspects broke their main doors and robbed them of unspecified amounts of money and other items including mobile phones, flat screen television sets, wedding rings, ATM cards, cameras and others.

Another victim said the suspects nearly cut off his finger after he refused to give out his wedding ring.

The suspects are in the custody of the Kpeshie Divisional Police Command assisting in investigations.
