Danbazau Pledges To Bring Reform In Federal Fire Service




The Minister of Interior, Abdulraman Danbazau have vowed to change the condition of the Federal Fire Service, as it is no longer acceptable.


The Minister says that having been briefed by the CG of the Fire Service, of the challenges, the federal Government will do everything possible to raise the standard of Service to a globally accepted level.

Gen. Danbazau who was on a working visit to the Fire Service Headquarters in Abuja, however called for patience, as the decay dates back to 1901 and as such will take time to fix.

Earlier, the Controller General of the Federal Fire, Joseph Anebi had lamented the poor funding and poor condition of the service.

The Controller General wants the fire service act of 1963 amended, noting that its provisions do not address current challenges.

He disclosed that the fire service has been groping with the challenges of zero funds allocation for procurement of firefighting vehicles and ancillary equipment, as well as inadequate fire stations to ensure effective fire coverage.

He also revealed that the 2.8billion naira approved by formal President, Goodluck Jonathan for the procurement of new fire fighting trucks and equipment, calling on the Minister to intervene on behalf of the Service, stating that the funding of the fire sector has to be improved upon to guarantee adequate protection of lives of the citizens, value assets, and the common wealth of the Nation.
