MTN And Suncity Free Medical Outreach Programme Takes Off

Kwatire (B/A), June 4, GNA - MTN, Africa's giant telecommunication network and the Sunyani Suncity Radio, have organised a three-day medical outreach programme for the people of Kwatire in the Sunyani West District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

Mr Ranford Antwi, the Managing Director of Suncity Radio said the programme was an innovative feature of the annual MTN/Suncity Festival - a collaborative health and sports event.

He said the programme was to create awareness of the existence of the Kwatire Polyclinic for the people in the area and beyond to patronise the facility instead of travelling long distance to the regional capital, Sunyani for medical care.

Professor Stephen Tabiri, a Consultant Surgeon of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, is leading a team of medical experts drawn from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, and the Brong Ahafo Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani, to undertake the exercise.

They would treat various medical ailments including surgical cases.

Mrs Salome Darko, the MTN Regional Marketing Officer in-charge of Northern Sector, said the medical outreach programme may become a regular feature of the annual festival after satisfactory assessment of the initiative.

She appealed to the people of Sunyani and its environs to take advantage of the unique opportunity to obtain free medical care for healthy living.

Mrs Darko said the MTN is committed to the socio-economic wellbeing of the people, hence the inclusion of the medical outreach programme in its annual activities.

Most of the people who were present at the health exercise expressed gratitude to the MTN and the Suncity Radio for the noble scheme. MTN employees mark 10 years of volunteerism
