Since its founding in 2015, Tempus has been presented with $210 million in funding and is currently valued at around $1.1 billion. This valuation has officially earned the company the status of an investment "unicorn". This rating is rare in the Chicago based startup's city.

Tempus employs around 400 employees, but it is adding about 30 more employees a month. Eric Lefkofsky's company's growth is continuing its steady pattern of growth and is expanding its reach with the funding they receive. This growth will allow for Tempus to continue in their goal to make care for cancer patients better.

By collecting clinical data, Tempus is discovering trends in cancer treatment and is also studying the molecular data of the patient to personalize treatment.

With the efforts of companies like Tempus, the cost of this beneficial sequencing is going down significantly. Other functions of Tempus include digitizing handwritten notes, many of which would never be digitized otherwise.

Normally, many of these handwritten notes never get entered into the patient's medical record and are simply lost. With Tempus' new technology, they are also searchable and storable.

The company is associated with people and organizations throughout the entirety of the healthcare system. These relationships include drug companies and doctors who are working together to treat cancer patients more effectively by using data.

Eric Lefkofsky predicts that the medical industry is in the middle of a huge paradigm shift. Tempus is part of Lightbank, which is a venture fund that specializes in disruptive technology.

Eric Lefkofsky and his wife co-founded the Lefkofsky Family Foundation. It was established in 2006 by the couple and aims to enhance the quality of life for humans. Its 4 areas of focus are human rights, medical research, education and the arts.

The foundation has donated millions to various cancer-related causes as well as many other life-changing organizations. He is also a Trustee for Wold Business Chicago, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

Eric Lefkofsky is on the staff of the University of Chicago as an adjunct professor. He earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Michigan Law School after graduating from the University of Michigan in 1991.
